DUCKS TO WATER
It was a great piece of luck when a mother duck found herself stressed and dehydrated, whilst in the yard of Marden business Water for Work and Home this weekend.
When Ben McGannan, MD of the business which knows everything about water, arrived on a scorching Sunday afternoon to unload a van, he noticed a single baby duckling with a very agitated mother locked in the yard. Seeing that the ducks were clearly distressed, he gave them some food and water which immediately calmed the mother duck down. Then all of a sudden the baby duck fell into a nearby drain. On peering into the drain, it was clear that there were several baby ducklings trapped two feet below ground.
Ben immediately dialed 999 and had a swift response from the Kent Fire Brigade who dispatched their fire engine from the nearby Marden Station to rescue the ducks. On lifting the drain cover, the Officers rescued an amazing 14 baby ducklings and after much patience reunited them with their mother on the local reservoir.
'As a business, we always stress the importance of hydration to employers and their employees but it was quite unusual to find a dehydrated duck in our yard' said Ben.
'But with the fantastic response from our local Fire Service we were able to get the duck family back to their natural habitat without too much stress - you could even say it was 'water off a ducks back''.
